Picking up his change is what he said... also Tom T. Hall was known as "The Storyteller". Check out "Faster Horses".
ОтветитьIronsides was a TV show. He was a lawyer.
Ответить"The song is based on a real-life conversation Hall had with a 65-year-old Black man while performing in Miami at the 1972 Democratic National Convention. The man told Hall that these three things were the only things in life that were worth a dime. He also said that old dogs care about people even when they make mistakes."

can you imagine what the old greats of country and western like tom t hall and johnny cash would say about what they are trying to pass for country music now a days?, they would be sick, i know i am.
ОтветитьHey Britt, I noticed you said that you loved the storytelling. Tom T was known as the “Storyteller” for good reason. It’s almost like you’re listening to your grandpa tell life’s stories. You need to dig a little deeper into his songs. I thinks you’ll become a fan. Mr Hall was truly a gem in this town (Nashville) as well around the world.
ОтветитьSo an old grey "haired" black " African American" gentleman. Ironsides was a detective show.
ОтветитьChange
ОтветитьTom T. was the greatest storyteller of them all. What a beautiful way to describe an elderly grey-haired black gentleman who was trying to impart his lifetime of wisdom to a younger man drinking his life away in an airport lounge-- learn to value the pure things like old dogs, and children, and watermelon wine.
Ironsides was a TV detective show in maybe the late '60s or early 70s. Raymond Burr starred as a wheelchair-bound detective.
He said picking up my change. He's left him a tip
ОтветитьOh my gosh! I hadn’t seen this performance before. I loved it.
ОтветитьGood grief girl. Gray haired. And picking up “change “. Just read the dang lyrics and you’ll finally get it. It’s a beautiful song.
ОтветитьHe left his change for the old gentleman.....money😊
ОтветитьThe classic country singers only tell stories in the songs. Like: Merle Hagard; Willie Nelson; George Jones; etc. Check out Merle Haggard's SING ME BA K HOME.
ОтветитьI don’t know if you can buy watermelon wine typically it’s homemade and it’s pretty tasty and rather sweet.
ОтветитьThe story teller from fox hollar.
ОтветитьHe was a black gentleman with gray hair. Simple as that. New subscriber, which I did because I feel you are honest. I met him once at the VP Fair in St. Louis. He was a great guy but (always a but) you had to stand about five feet away from him so you wouldn't get a contact drunk from his breath. I guess I met him before Johnny Cash had a talk with him. Actually, another song of his (I Love...) was the first song I ever sang in public. Story Tellers are the best...
ОтветитьI've loved this song every since it came out.
ОтветитьBritt you have to react to many many of his greatest hits that he wrote for other artist this man was a true legend!!!😘😘😘👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
ОтветитьOld grey black gentleman, his hair is gray thus the respect of listening to the old guy’s story and preserving it in song.
ОтветитьGeorge Jones and Tammy Wynette
ОтветитьLove you Britt ... you're good.. Gotta a ways to go before dementia ... LOL ♥
Ответитьyou are spot on...as usual...
ОтветитьIt is so nice that you are discovering music that is as old (or older) than me. I am 56 and heard this song as a little child (first came out when I was about 4). Tom T Hall is a legend in country music. A super kind soul! Merle Haggard, Waylen Jennings, & many others from that era have made music I am sure you would love. God Bless!
Ответитьhe's sung it so many times... and yet... he draws you into the song... the intimate setting... the very "real" mood. I know that it touches me every time I hear it.
ОтветитьYou have such respect and get it as a reactor to music and I'd say as a person.. Super enjoy you.. Tom T. Hall is legendary..
Ответитьyou gotta check out "water melon crawl"
ОтветитьIron side was a TV show about a crippled lawyer who attended court in his wheel chair
ОтветитьThat song I have on a 45 rpm.
ОтветитьI also turned 65 almost 2 months ago. Love this song.
ОтветитьI would be willing to bet that his watermelon wine was home brew and not some some store brought brew.
ОтветитьHe was a true story teller
ОтветитьWhen I was a teen, Tom T. Hall wrote, "Hello, VietNam" the opening music to the movie "Full Metal Jacket" Another artist sang it but it was one of Tom T.'s first big hits. A few years later it was a daily event for me to hear some other US Marine sarcastically say, "Goodbye, sweetheart. Hello, VietNam". 😁That man was one of the best storytellers in the business.
ОтветитьFrom my hometown. Olive Hill. Me and Jesus is awesome. And “The fastest Rabbit Dog in County Today”
ОтветитьIronsides is reference to the USS Constitution Navy ship.
ОтветитьAlways the ultimate performer - I have multiple copies of this song! Too bad, that she doesn't actually get a lot of the references, I knew ALL of them! (Guess I'm getting old...) Lol, I've loved that song, longer than SHE'S been alive!
ОтветитьIronsides is like moving Law and Order
ОтветитьTom T was a great Songwriter just like Merle Haggard.. But Tom T own a Newspaper down in Tennessee.. Don't know if he still does though..
ОтветитьTom T Hall was a legend! His nick name was "The Story Teller". If you want to react to a good sad Country song, listen to "Honey" by Bobby Goldsboro. If that song doesn't make you cry, you have no heart hahahaha. Anyway, I love your channel and keep up the great videos!!!!
ОтветитьRemember, He's also the person who wrote Harper Valley PTA.
ОтветитьThis is great! Britt. But do a reaction to The Voice. Not the show. But Vern Gosdin. He's the voice! Country Legend Waylon Jennings named him that. He truly is The Voice.
ОтветитьThey just dont make them like Tom.T anymore....
ОтветитьLord have mercy honey. You unfortunately have missed crucial points in the song ie. “ iron sides “ was an old 70s movie depicting war of independence. Referring to a boat that had iron instead of normal wood structure ., these boats were able to withstand great battles.
The line later states says the old black gentleman at bar was picking up his remaining change.
Call me , im old, a hillbillyand know a fews things about old country , real country music.
teddy bear red sovine will bring a tear
ОтветитьThat he drew you in enough to sing along was really special.
ОтветитьLived next door to Tom & Dixie for many years. Super nice people and great benefit parties. Godspeed ol' neighbor
ОтветитьYou come across as an eclectic soul who appreciates new experiences. The attraction is your face, expressions, reactions, willingness to explore other cultural expressions, reflecting on your own history, and what it means to you. Pleasure to be a fan. Ray 74yo guy.
ОтветитьTwo sings by him you have to listen too, More About John Henry and Turn it on,Turn it on,Turn it on. He was known as the Storyteller and these two songs help prove it.
ОтветитьMakes him break out... windows, doors etc
ОтветитьI've loved this song for as long as I've known what music is. It's part of the foundation of my musical taste. Part of why I've always loved country music so much.
