To bad that explorer didn't have a better driver. That first bit of snow should not have been an issue. It was moving just fine but when you slowed down you lost momentum which is important in deeper snow. You would have been better off to speed up through there. The explorer is a very capable unit in deep snow with an experienced driver who is not afraid to drive it. Yes I have a 2023 Explorer and live in MN. We definitely know about driving in deep snow.

Fords Intelligent four wheel drive sucks. I have a 2020 Explorer ST & have gotten stuck severalties, in snow that my old Ford pickup with2 wheel drive & limited slip goes through easily. Why these idiot engineers think everything has to be computer controlled is beyond me. I sure hope, someone from Ford engineering reads my comment !

You even said “this isn’t a snow rated tire” and everyone is acting surprised when it got stuck? In snow/ice almost nothing matters, except the tire you’re running. And those stock tires, are trash in snow

Just watching the drive mode debacle made me so frustrated, I could never live with the experience being stuck in real time..

I highly doubt software can make up for traditional 4 hi or 4 low and ground clearance..

Am dreaming of a 2010 Escape Limited with navigation package.
Or a Sport Trac Adrenalin with V8 and navigation package.

Hard pack snow, limited clearance & stopping are impossible conditions. The vehicle can't move if snow is suspending the entire vehicle not allowing the tires to touch the ground. I don't care what vehicle you have or drive modes

Any SUV didnt come with ( LSD) Or (Difflock) then its not for Offroad

This is why snow tires exist.
Why did you not drop the tire pressure?
Not saying it would have worked, but it’s one more thing to try.
Also jacking up the vehicle enough to slide the traction boards underneath.
You’re lucky to have backup for a rescue.
It’s an expensive piece of equipment to get stuck, you have to carry loads of gear if you’re going off the beaten path.

This video has convinced me that I do not want a Ford Explorer for bad weather or winter months. It gets stuck and the 4wd shuts you down. Nah 😳

If you want an off-road vehicle, it needs some serious upgrades, just like any modern vehicle.

BIG downer to the Explorer line in general. No wireless Apple car play and SYNC system sucks streaming music. Glitches randomly from time to time. I’ve had 2 different explorers now 22 and 23 models. Same sync system. The infotainment in the Traverse and just about every other car with these price points destroys the Explorers. If you really want an Explorer wait until the 25!!!! Big upgrade coming for infotainment

you spent 10 minutes in a tiny puddle....why !?!? Figure things out off camera. Only press "record" when you know what you are doing. Please respect your viewers time! This was an "AWD and Snow Test" you spent a lot more time on road than off road. Then we watched while you tried to get unstuck. Worst review of all time. You should take this down. It just makes you look bad.

As your wheels spin they melt the snow directly under the tires. What happens when you add water to ice? It makes it quite a bit slipperier. You need traction so you need to dig out more under the back of the tire. That way once the tire starts to spin it in effect is falling onto your traçtion pads. Then once you start moving then give it hell right back out where you came. Oh and realize : those don't float either so stay away from water.

Let's purposely drive this vehicle into snow too deep for this crossover and blame the crossover for not doing truck things

Set up to fail. Non snow rated tires and driving in snow that is deep enough to drag on the undercarriage, also the self recovery traction boards were set up wrong.

To go slow for trail, maybe try ECO mode. I hate that mode on the 2.3 Explorer, it really takes all the throttle response away.
