Y2K: The Millennium Bug's Deadliest Secret (1998)

Ooh, this oughta be good. I remember being hunkered down in our apartment, probably asleep by midnight.

And most of us, even myself, still thought Y2K was start of the millennium.

my friends' dad was doing lights for a band doing a bar gig on new years 99', just before midnight they do the countdown 10-9...and so on, they all get to 1 and he shuts down all the lights 🤣 causing people to freak out for a minute before turning them back on and continuing the show 🤣🤣🤣

I remember my third grade teacher going crazy during this time. Hell everybody was they "big brother" had everyone running like chickens with their head cut off. Kind of like society is now.

I was worried about the millennium, but felt safe once we got the Willennium.

People underestimate the seriousness of the bug. The reason that (almost) nothing happened is that people did their jobs.

We ended up with a late fee for several thousand dollars for a video game we had rented when the doomsday bug hit

Man, they had a number to call at the end of everything back in the 90s.

They forgot to mention the wonderful, chilling characters we got because of this panic. Brainiac (DCAU), the Computer (Courage the Cowardly Dog), hell even Swayzak (Toonami), even if he were after this (2002.)

So basically they didn’t fix the issue in the 60s because 2000 wasn’t an immediate concern. Dumb considering time always moves forward and comes way quicker than you think. I mean look at 2000 now. 22 years ago, people can’t even comprehend how long it’s been since then 😂

I remember how nervous everyone was about Y2k... Turned out to be a nothing burger. A handful of small problems wide spread that were easily resolved.

Why is there THX sound

I was five when this occured, as such I didn't fully understand the implications of the Y2K issue, but I could tell some of the adults were worried about it. My parents weren't too nervous about it but I remember we got several months worth of shelf stable foods supplies. It was all stuff we could use in normal life so when the new year came and went, i recall my mom seemed relieved. We slowly used the stable foodstuffs over the next few years but the whole thing got me interested in learning self suffeciency and survival skills. No crazy paranoid stuff but I went on to learn how to collect and purify water, how to properly lay a fire and start it burning without matches and a bit of crafting stuff. Even as an adult, whenever I live in a new area, I still make it a point to learn the local flora and fauna, especially which kinds berries and other fruits can be had in the area. Sadly the conspiracy theory types have tarnished the word "survivalism," but I encourage everyone to learn the skills originally associated with the term. I think everyone should know how to gather and purify water and seek out basic foods at least. Please stay safe and educate yourself, it's only too late to learn after a disaster occurs. Until then, keep learning!

My family and I went into the ark (that’s what my dad called it) back in 9/1999.
