I honestly think if Boris III hadn't died during the War, Bulgaria may have been in a much stronger position...

As Boris and his government didn't trust nor take any liking to Stalin, and Boris staunchly opposed Communism... he refused to implant anti-jewish laws and refused to deport Jews from Bulgaria...

But when he died, his young son Simeon II became Tsar, and with that, everything went backwards for the remainder of the war... if only The Allies got to Bulgaria before Boris died, and maybe things would have ended differently there, or if Boris hadn't sadly died at all, Bulgaria would have never fallen under Communist rule.

Bulgaria is like the Thailand of European during world war 2, they didn't get much new land just liks Thailand didn't get much new land from Japan conquering Indochina, not to mention they are kinda neutral evil sort of axis power, when the war end they didn't get much hated and dislike like Germany did

In retrospect Boris should have taken Musolini's offer and then tried to make a deal with Stalin for even more land. We had communism anyway so at least get as much as you can out of it. No way he could have known that at the time though.

Well to ways I see it the nation didn’t really have much chance in the situation of WW2, Germany 🇩🇪 would have done more then just come knocking on their door, it invaded nations that refused to join the Nazi party and axis powers like France 🇫🇷 Poland 🇵🇱 and many other nations also 😢 Germany says to Europe “Join us or will we invade you, kill you, and make you join us” so by doing so the beautiful nation of Bulgaria 🇧🇬 had no choice but to join, thereby making it an enemy of the USA 🇺🇸 and UK 🇬🇧 and other such numerous nations of the Allied powers. So really the axis powers were considered of Ukraine 🇺🇦 Serbia 🇷🇸 Croatia 🇭🇷 Czechoslovakia 🇨🇿 and many other European nations who had no choice but to side with Germany however Russia did in fact put up a fight against Germany 🇩🇪. So really Bulgaria didn’t really get involved in the war which one quality I am proud of 😊

It is rumored here how our tzar Boris III died so suddenly and soon after being at a meeting with Hitler and denying to send him our jews - poisoned by the tea he drank at that meeting.

Even though Bulgaria was (basically) forced to join the Axis by Germany, didn't deport any jews from most of its territory, and mostly refused to even fight with anybody, We were still labeled as German supporters, even after we switch sides at the end of ww2 (because of soviet union). Honestly Bulgaria's main goal at the time was to preserve itself and achieve national unity (through getting back the lost territories from The Berlin congress. After the second russo-turkish war in which bulgaria was liberated from the ottomans).

Always with Germany, never against Russia.. Damn mistakes.

Did anyone ever realize Germany has all the power in the beginning they're doing better than anyone else they have better technology than anyone else and then they mess with America and that's when the war ends when America gets involved no Russia is worthless in both world wars the only thing that they were ever good for was Manpower last time I check that did not help them too much against the Nazis in fact the Russians nearly had the same amount of men as the Germans did that's how many Russians the Germans killed so no Russia was not a mistake in fact I would have loved seeing two genocide anti-semetic Psychopaths kill each other because let's be honest that's better for the world what's innocent people get hurt if it's just two nut jobs and their armies of well mass murder and war crimes

Interesting, and a bit more complex than I previously thought/realised. I kinda just thought Bulgaria and Hungary were in the Axis just because they were understandably (given their location) more afraid of the Soviet illegal annexationists and tyrants than of the Nazi illegal annexationists and tyrants.

Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria eere the only nationd to keep or expsnd their territories before the war apart of Axis. Czechoslovakia and Poland were the only two allied nations to lose territory from before war

But as a russian i am not pleased with the bulgarians double crossing russia in two world wars by siding with germany which is a monstrous betrayal. 🇷🇺🖕🇧🇬

Simple answer we are learning in school. The bulgarian national question.
After the Russo-turkish war [ we call it independence war] at march 3 the San stefano peace treaty would say bulgarians will live under one common nation- Bulgaria. Ofcourse serbia and greece wasn't happy having a large nation where all bulgarians [ in those lands they idenify as bulgarians ] will live togheter. After all no, it was not just bulgarian land. Lands from macedonia, serbia to thracia and north dobrudzha idenify themselves [ atleast most ] as bulgarians. Now this land was as large as bulgaria before being invaded by the ottomans so it was fair especially when the OE [ ottoman empire ] commitied alot of stuff [ killing womens and children, you know about it ]. In other words bulgaria will gain the same land as they lost before 400 years [ for whole 400 years bulgaria was under ottoman control ]. Then however the superpowers decided as well as serbia and greece that a powerful nation that is mostly under russian control in the balkans where it gives more control to aegean sea and black sea was not good idea so the treat of berlin in 1878 after less a year happened. People in lands that were lost by bulgaria [ macedonia and south thracia ] were angry becouse they are mostly bulgarians. They even revolted. This sparked the national question of uniting bulgarians into one nation, what the San stefano treaty should have given. Not only that but bulgaria was splitted into East rumelia though it was united which was a won for bulgarian national movement. In world war 1 germany asked bulgaria to join the central power as bulgaria could suprise attack serbia from south east while the serbs were fighting nort west. This worked and macedonia was promised after the war. Same goes for world war 2 but if they declined they would have no option. After world war 2 even when bulgaria still had those lands USSR wanted to give them to SFR Yugoslavia becouse it was theres and this would make SFRY more into soviet power. This caused large stuff to happen in macedonia and alot of bulgarians were killed in short. Then serbians tried to munipulate-like macedonians who either some are bulgarian or slavs who came from serbia. A language was created based of the bulgarian and serbian [ calling there language tottaly different even when i speak bulgarian and i easily understand them without knowing "macedonian" ] and even when most are bulgarians for some reason we do not hate them as much as they do... In short the BNQ caused bulgaria to choose central and axis

If it wasn’t for Harry Potter, i wouldn't know that Bulgaria is a country. To this day, the only thing i know about them is 1) they joined the Axis powers in WW2, and 2) they had the best damn quiditch player in the world!

The United States Congress declared war on June 4, 1942 on Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary. FDR signed it the declarations* of war the next day. These were the last declarations of war by the US, and obviously we haven't fought a war since. 😞

* If I'm not mistaken, there were separate joint resolutions.
