I don't think any discussion of US politics is complete without recognizing the strength of partisan, particularly right wing, media. The majority of Trump voters have been propagandized into disbelieving their own eyes, and the left has been led to believe that people are rational rather than tribal.

Believe it or not Americans understand things more in depth than the elite media will admit. Friedman forgets that Trump won in spite of most the media against him and political persecution. Friedman is out to lunch but that is very good for the US. As Napoleon said: "when the enemy is wrong do not distract him".
Friedman is another example of how you can hiperarticulate and at the same time with his common sense completely unhinged, but I suppose that is what happens to all elitist swept away by the people.
