We are getting these feral cats evolving and adapting very fast in our outback in Australia some up to a cattledog mid sized species!

So, do the cats keep the rat predation of smaller birds in check? If no cats, there would be more rats.

One day the cold will return and many places will find themselves buried under hundreds of feet, even miles thick of snow and ice and this problem of invasive species will sort itself out. It's fascinating to watch evolution taking place but in the long term these things work out. Like when continents separate then smash back together again creating new habitats, and new enemies.
The current weather cycle has been like this on and off for a few million years now, and currently we're lucky enough to have lives through a stable period, slowly warming over the last 20k years. Younger Dryas event excepted. Warming is nothing compared to the coming of the ice.

I think its partialy the albatroses failure of adapting to the new enemie its not like there was multiple preditors introduced nonjust one and if the birds refuse to become more agressive in watching the chicks thsts their evoloutionatty failure since an albatross is prettqy big

Cats get an extra life in environments where they are not native or are introduced too. They adapt so well and maybe they are part of the solution for vermin control in this case.

We have an apex predator with few below it, and an apex herbivore in the reindeer.

I would expect cats to evolve to bobcat or a bit larger, but domestic felines can cooperate far better than the larger cats, as they are very social.

So I expect that at some point either they'll attack in a group, as lions do.

Based upon the cats that I have seen go after deer, I suspect some already are trying.

Ecosystems are seldom balanced, they are frequently changing due to events.

It's particularly bad in places with low body diversity, like islands, caves, deep valley, high mountains, etc.

And the northern hemisphere, which is far less diverse than the southern hemisphere ever since the meteor impacts which devastated the dinosaurs.

Sloppy, sloppy. First, Archipelago is pronounced with stress on the 3rd syllable 'pe' NOT the 4th 'la'. ArchiPElago, not ArchipeLAgo. In the beginning, you talked about feral cats but showed images of lynx. NOT the same species at all. When you talked about the introduction of rats and mice, you showed footage of a chipmunk, which is NOT a rat or mouse, but belongs to the squirrel branch of the rodents. If you want to spread information, BE ACCURATE.

In a thousand years or so the Albatrosses that still exist on those islands will be the ones who nest in the least accessible areas which will reduce the number of cats who hunt them. The rat and rabbit population will never disappear and those cats that hunt them will be there to stay. It will take time but there will come a time when the island reaches something resembling equilibrium. The reindeer population can more easily be eradicated and should be.

If it's true that the cars are mainly threatening the Albatros before the winter we will have to send in specialized people to take care of the young birds every year.. This is the time to take over responsabillity for our ancestor's faults, what else? Or shall we just continue? 😢

They are not evolving if they are still cats. They are eating pure protein and exercising. Of course they will get bigger and stronger. And their DNA has not made them into something else. They are still cats.

Returned to the wild, it’s not a long leap. The “domestic” house cat still has the programming but why deal with the grisly bits when one only has to sit, look cute and meow, and the food appears skinned and pre-chewed?

Worse: introducing rabbits and rats without a natural predator. In that case rabbits and rats + cats is less bad, because the cats will balance the rabbits and rats.
