I have BOTH. My japanese cars are for everyday driving and walmart runs. My BMW is my toy and is pretty much a weekend vehicle and a reminder of why i work everyday - so i can have toys!

Now, your comparing a non luxury to non luxury. It should’ve been a Lexus vs bmw

Sadly there are only 2 Japanese reliable brands and they’re Toyota/Lexus and Honda/Acura. Nissan turned into sh…t. Infiniti is reliable but they’re literally going extinct soon.

I am a German and honestly I would pick Japanese cars since I made good experiences with Toyota, Honda and Subaru. It's what you said already: repairs for German cars are complicated, time consuming and very costly. Especially replacement parts which have to be ordered from the car manufacturers themselves. Also, the German car industry is very exploitive so I am not really a fan of scummy buisness practises at the expense of the consumer. If anything, I would pick Audi or VW, because modern BMW and Mercedes cars pretend to be luxurious at a higher price, when in reality they have questionable compartment parts, features and design flaws in different cases and different models also again at the expense of the consumer. Avoid Opel/Vauxhall (UK).

I'm an owner of a Honda Jazz....an ex- mechanic etc. You presented an accurate and balanced comparison which I agree with....many thanks. One last thing, an opinion only, but many drivers of German cars push them harder than Japanese owners which may be the cause of less reliability and higher maintenance costs. I am 70+ so no ego and happy to stay in the slow lane and meet the racers 10 minutes later (ok I'm boring!)
Happy motoring to everyone whatever you drive😂

Classic volkswagen enthusiast from the Philippines here since year 2000.. The classic vw beetle is one german car that is simple, reliable, sturdy, and easy to maintain. Basic mechanical design with no computer and electronic sensors. I drive a restored 1971 super beetle with a 1640cc engine, petronix ignition, dual solex carbs, and customized airconditioner. It's a gas and go car. I drive it daily with no major issues except for regular maintenance. When everything with electronics breaks down. Only beetles and old mechanical cars will roam the landscape.

JUST A FEW YEARS AGO THE RATE OF 1 EURO WAS 1.30 USA AND A NEW BMW 3 SERIES WAS $36,000 BASE PRICE OR AT THE EXCHANGE RATE 27,692 EUROS ........NOW A BASE MODEL BMW IS $47,000 USA OR 43,925 EUROS AT THE 1 EURO= 1.07 USA DOLLAR RATE ....ACCORDING TO INFLATION OF 20% THE NEW BMW SHOULD COST 27,692 x 1.20 = 33,230 EUROS
SO IN REALITY BUYING A NEW BMW OR MB IS A RIP OFF CUSTOMERS OVERPAYING FROM 43,925-33,230 = 10,695 EUROS or x 1.07= $12,566 USA DOLLARS CAR COMPANIES ARE MAKING A KILLING JUST WITH THE RATE OF EXCHANGE FOR THAT REASON I WILL NOT BE BUYING BMW'S OR MB'S .

Both countries have produced several models in the 1990s which were offered in both 2-door coupe and 3-door liftback forms. This is what Dodge should be doing with the new Charger, since most fans don’t want a liftback but Dodge still wants to offer it.

Thanks for your detailed analysis.
However, l don't understand why people compare TOYOTA and HONDA to MERCEDES and BMW instead of LEXUS and ACURA to MERCEDES and BMW.

I've driven both Japanese and German cars and my conclusion is, go Japanese if money is a problem and you simply need transportation.
Drive German cars if you are well heeled and enjoy the act of driving.

Japanese cars are so boring to drive. Have been driving German cars (BMWs and Mercs) for the last 15 years, generally they have been okay. I'll sell them off at 100k miles. Stick with the standard cars (3/5 series or C/E Class) more reliable than the high powered cars.
