Are there certain places that are good to look as far as where milkweed grows? I live in Michigan. My mom has a bunch of milkweed and I searched last year but never found anything. So I’m not sure if they don’t like her plants or if something ate the eggs or caterpillars or what. :( I wanna try again this year to raise some to release so they don’t get killed. :(
ОтветитьSomething I read the other day sparked me so here I am, a novice learning how to help make some insects 😀 Great video, thank you!
Ответитьit has to b the air
ОтветитьFound two eggs today in Austin TX
ОтветитьYou’re awesome!! Thanks for this!
ОтветитьNow that I finally own land, I’ve planted a bunch of milkweed. Screw keeping up with the Jones’s, I’m turning this place into a wildlife habitat. Suck it, chodewagons.
ОтветитьMe and husband are both retired homebodies.. I'm about to plant milkweed this week and take it from there
ОтветитьHey, so I don’t have seeds (crazy cause i was gonna buy some) but I recently found some growing at my home. It’s only about 3 or 4 plants tho... if they eat them all will they grow back? Should I buy seeds still maybe?
ОтветитьI just went out to buy milkweed from a nursery to be ready for some monarch. On my way home with the plants I found eggs on them! I went home with 8eggs and 1larva next to it’s egg! I don’t even need to go looking anymore lol
ОтветитьThank you so much raise 10 my first year 30 the second year I’m on my third year already released 1 Have 10 eggs one chrysalis and three caterpillars unless it is 2021 OK thank you so much your videos have helped me so much couldn’t do it without you this is my first year doing the eggs this video is helped tremendously thank you thank you thank you
ОтветитьHow do u stop flow of milk from those plucked milkweed leaves?
ОтветитьI have a question.. I have a caterpillar that went into j hook position which seemed too early..hes been in position for 2 days but today hes been constantly twisting side to side. Hes not morphing. Ive raised a lot of monarchs but have yet to encounter this. Can you explain?
ОтветитьThanks so much Mr. Lund. You are hero. I have been raising milkweed for years but now i will take care of eggs thanks to you. much thanks. excellent. I ma in the mid west. chicago. . I gather seeds and plant where i go . hello neighbor/!!
ОтветитьDo Monarch eggs turn brownish just before hatching?
ОтветитьI am new to this so, my question is , do they need to be fertilized and how do you know if they are?
ОтветитьI know this might sound crazy but its 100% once i found 16 eggs on one SWAMP milkweed
ОтветитьHi this year first time milkweed plants are thriving..just two...in my gardern here in south carolina ..took a couple fo years for it to adapt and I plan to buy more plants. I found 3 eggs right on the top of one of the plants and transferred the leaf to a food container and watching. Its been 3 days .no hatch....the eggs are very close together and I'm concerned because the leaf is drying out. Hope they are ok. Just found your butterfly series. I have been raising black swallowtail from catepillars on fennel.
Ответитьi planted 15+ milkweeds in my yard to help and learn .thank you
ОтветитьWhen are you p0sting again I miss your posts
ОтветитьWhat do you do if the eggs are not on a leaf?
ОтветитьI'm not sure if I missed it or it's just not included and yes I have watched all 5 videos but I dont remember hearing about ideal temperatures or humidity levels for both indoor and outdoor settings. Living in socal we have extremely high temps at times and would hate to nuke my eggs or Caterpillars. Because just this yr a monarch that attached its chrysalis to our stairs died due to the stone/concrete being hot
ОтветитьHi I hope you get this comment I have a 5 gallon tank I plan to put the catapillars in. About how many would be able to live in there?
ОтветитьMonarchs and Radiohead, my 2 favourite things! Amazing video. Thank you for the info. Also great that you mentioned everything that you need to do before collecting.
Had an issue with an egg drying out. Whats the best way to keep the milkweed leaf fresh with an egg on it?
Ever since I watched this series 3 years ago ive been raising butterflies every summer and im still in school
ОтветитьI saw a monarch lay an egg once whist I was searching for eggs. The butterfly landed on the leaf and hooked it's abdomen to the underside. I collected that egg and named him Chompy the Great. Well, Chompy was actually a male, but I couldn't tell until he became a butterfly.
ОтветитьYeah, it's pretty darn cool when you get five monarch eclose in one day. They usually hatch in the early morning and chill out for two hours before the can fly away.
ОтветитьJust found your page. I’m very new at this. I’ve always wanted to have a butterfly garden. I just found a egg on a leaf. I will be starting with just one egg at this time. Thank you for this information it’s extremely helpful. 🦋 👍
ОтветитьI have been out a couple times a week, for a few weeks now and have only found ONE caterpillar on the dozens and dozens of plants I've searched. Surely they can't be that low, can they? Are aphids a problem? That spotted lantern fly?
ОтветитьYou make helpful and entertaining videos. Thank you, Rich Lund. Subscribed.
ОтветитьFor the last few years we have just raised the caterpillars we have found and then released them as butterflies, this has been so helpful as we earn to find the eggs to help them along from an earlier stage! Thank u!
ОтветитьI just found this series, and it is fantastic!. Thank you for doing this.
ОтветитьEight years later - the monarch is now officially endangered 😭 This year is the first year I have saved and released swallowtail butterflies. Planted tons of host and nectar plants. I then added butterfly weed. Recently bought butterfly bushes. For the first time ever, I have monarchs on my yard. Collected 13 eggs yesterday after watching the female visit. Watched 4 monarchs today for a couple hours in my yard. My yard will be evolving more and more into a butterfly sanctuary!!!
ОтветитьWhen it’s 8 years ago
ОтветитьThese butterflies are laying eggs on my passion fruit vines and they are destroying them😬
ОтветитьThe illegal logging of the monarch wintering sites, and the murders of those trying to protect them is horrific. The monarch’s are gradually finding new wintering grounds, which is great, but what a shame. Protecting their habitat in Mexico is like trying to protect tidied elephants in Africa. Great video! We raise Monarchs & Swallowtails from found egg to the final hatch, released in a yard they never forget 😊
Ответитьhow do i keep them safe from wasps?
ОтветитьLess music while you are talking please.
ОтветитьHello- I have watched your videos and harvested about 50 last year. This year, I am overwhelmed. I do not have enough milkweed. I have been doing research and found a study that suggests harvesting eggs to maturity is actually not helping the monarchs hence raising monarchs that may not have survived ( natural selection ) and spreading more disease. So I let the eggs be on the milkweed. I noticed so much evidence that min caterpillars were there and then just disappeared, rarely do i see any mature ones. Are birds getting them and should i harvest again?
ОтветитьDo the monarch’s have a better chance of survival if we raise them indoors with knowledge and release as butterflies than just leaving them be to grow on milkweed in the wild?
ОтветитьThe tiny piece of milkweed is so dried out. Will it be ok until the egg hatches?
ОтветитьI have found a large stage 5 I think should I leave it alone or move it. Also wondering what's going on with this milkweed plant. A lot of yellow pieces and a lot of small ants
ОтветитьI THOUGHT IT WAS POSTED TODAY AND I WAS LIKE but i saw a monarch butterfly 2 days ago mating
ОтветитьSmall correction, what he was calling swamp milkweed was actually Dogbane
ОтветитьSuper helpful handsome man! I work as a Naturalist & we officially now have our monarch way station. Looking fwd to raising monarchs. Great music selection, btw😉🧜🏼♀️🦋
ОтветитьI grew kale last year. When I saw many caterpillars on kale leaves, I left them alone and let them eat kale. I never knew what kind of butterflies they became.
ОтветитьVery informative!
ОтветитьOkay, well, a little help on what some other white eggs would be on top of the leaves?
ОтветитьI read our avocado consumption is also part of the problem -- clearing pine forest habitat for avocado groves...
