🦖🦕 Congrats on another week surviving BotB! Also congrats on vlogging this in the midst of moving house!! I completely agree with your views on rating, and your preferences to thoroughly analyze a book's parts!
ОтветитьThe way you were talking about the Frankenstein retelling made me think that you might really enjoy Kelley Armstrong's mystery series, A Rip in Time. The vibes seems like those books could be really up your alley. She also has another time traveling series, A Stitch in Time, which could probably work for you too. Idk if you're in the mood for other recommendations, but the thought was too strong to keep to myself. Lol

ОтветитьI loved We Have Always Lived in the Castle. I had read it during a psychological genre reading phase and was just getting into horror, so I was quite surprised at the twist at the end. Your feelings about that book is how I felt about Shirley Jackson's other work, The Haunting of Hill House. The payoff did not match the buildup and I was let down by the ending.
It's so cool to me that you have videos prefilmed so far in advance. How awesome! That's like some next level planning and organization skills that I can only wish to have.
I read We always lived in the castle last year and loved the atmosphere!! Need to read another one next autumn!! Thank you for your videos!!

ОтветитьI haven’t read either of those books. Sounds great though. Well done for the second round.

I read We Have Always Lived in the Castle a few years ago, but i really need to reread it. I felt like i didn't fully understand it at the time, but i think i would like it more on reread. From what i've heard The Haunting of Hill House has more of the creepy gothic vibes you were expecting
ОтветитьHearing this actually makes me want to re-read the original Frankenstein 🤗🦖
ОтветитьI was so excited for you to read these picks! I felt similarly about We Have Always Lived in the Castle.
ОтветитьI also read We Have Always Lived in the Castle for the first time this year. I had the same feelings. I expected it to be more creepy and scary. I did enjoy the writing and would like to try more of her work.
What is the program you use to rate books? I have such a difficult time with star ratings as well and would love to have another way to process my thoughts. 🦕🦖
I love We Have Always Lived in the Castle! 🖤 It was my first Shirley Jackson novel. I loved the characters, especially Merricat being an unreliable narrator. For me, the horror was subtle with the community’s mob mentality fueled by fear; also Merricat’s instability and psychopathic tendencies. Mental health and isolation play a part in the novel and affect both girls.
I also love Frankenstein, so the Frankenstein retelling sounds terrific. 🦕 Bravo on making it through Week 2, Kirsten. 👏🏻 You had a great week. 🎉
What's a video without some technical difficulties here and there? Sounds like you had a really busy time while reading these so I'm glad you were able to enjoy them. I haven't read either of them and I'm not the biggest fan of Frankenstein in general so... I'll just see myself out. 🦖🦖🦕🦕
ОтветитьYou make me want to use CAWPILE again!

ОтветитьLoved this vlog! Watching super late as I’m catching up on BOTB books, but these are both on my TBR so I was super interested. 1- love that both the books have an mc named Mary(ish) 2- love that our hideous progeny sounds like Frankenstein meets Jurassic park? Incredible basis for a story. 3- I hope you do try the haunting of hill house because I loooved that book, I found it creepy and got super attached to the characters, the last fourth of it made me sob
