Can we just all be completely honest here?! Ridley Scott has had no new ideas for well over a decade now, and has to rely on trashing his former glories in the form of prequels and sequels to get a paycheck these days.
He's the biden of directors...
I don't think humpty dumpty still waiting for his nuts to drop should be chatting about freaks.
ОтветитьIt's so frustrating that drinker sometimes invites these absolute barrel scraping guests sometimes. I may be wrong but a drinker, mauler and platoon conversation would be a dream podcast to listen to. But unfortunately we're saddled with sections of utterly banal verbage from the weird man at the end of the bar. Chris is always tolerable on most podcasts, but Jesus Christ... The other two are insufferable.
ОтветитьSo good to see Chris Gore back to his old "sharp" self, post stroke. His speech is back to normal and his wit and movie trivia recall are better than ever. Good on you Chris! You have always defined our media history in a way that we all can relate to and appreciate.
Cheers, Sev
Episode 2 of Dune Prophecy was like watching all of the acolyte compressed into 1 episode, Chris is being nice, it IS worse.
ОтветитьWow, what a great review, Chris: Wicked is gay. I'm so tired of his neverending rants and the constant sucking-up to Gary. SKIP!
ОтветитьAfter crossing the "current year"-threshold for Open Bar, you could start making predictions - serious or not - for the future.
ОтветитьOh Chris, what a small man you are.
ОтветитьI love the Wizard of Oz!!!
I loathe Wicked... it is not a true prequel and just... tarnishes the charm of the Wizard of Oz
The only IP I can recall that had a good continuation/prequel was Dark Crystal Age of Resistance. Expanded the lore, great new characters & didn't shit on the original. Then Netflix cancelled it
ОтветитьLookup "Villians" ad from the Super Bowl
ОтветитьThank you for having someone who actually knows history rather than you guys sounding ignorant for an hour. FYI Ridley Scott has never made a historically accurate movie.
ОтветитьEasy times are making soft men.
ОтветитьThe Duelists1977 was Ridley Scotts best film and as it was based on Conrads story it wasn't bolloxed by Scott. Great sesh as always guys 🥃🙏
ОтветитьMauler - Had two monitors for work since 1992, Currently I like (2) 32 inch 4K (for video) but some apps you wouldn't notice 720p, ergonomic position is important. I have my laptop on the side to listen to you gentlemen while working.
ОтветитьMarvel's high water mark was part of Infinity War
ОтветитьDoes MauLer ever like anything?
ОтветитьCar commercials have been co-opted by feminists for years at this point, once you start paying attention to them you start to see the patterns everywhere
I can't for the life of me remember what brand of car it was for but it was some dum story of a lesbian escaping either her family or an abusive boyfriend to go be with her secret lover
and I was legit thinking it was a commercial for some gay film or something
NO IT WAS A F*CKING CAR AD.
can those b*tches just...let men have their hobbies without dumbshite feminist's polluting them with their toxicity. like I get it, you have a poor taste in men and its "mens fault" you're an absolute trashbag that can't take responsibility because its easier to blame men; let them have their cars, mini painting, videogames and movies. the more you annoy them the less "good men" there are.
this is coming from a woman by the way, I'm mad at them too. I fuckin love the OG starwars and the prequels but ho damn I want someone to put rey into an industrial grinder so badly.
Is that a yellow yeti cup you posh bastard?
ОтветитьSpeaking of Arcane season 2. Yeah i just saw article saying multiple new things revelaed or something.
ОтветитьActually the battle.of Carthage had nothing to with commodus, he didn't set it up or try to away and he even enjoyed the surprise ending of who won
ОтветитьI've listened to this 2x and still my brain refuses to connect enjoying Thai Food with seeing the Wicked film.
ОтветитьTo be fair to the Roman naval attack of Carthage, it is kind of steeped in historical accuracy - at least broadly speaking. The Third Punic War almost entirely entailed the siege of Carthage. Carthage had already lost or surrendered most of its arms and ships to the Romans by this point, and the city itself was the last bastion of Carthaginian power.
The problem was the city itself was supremely defensible. It was situated at the end of a peninsula where the land connection was very rocky and rough and couldn't support many legions attacking, much less siege engines. The Romans really couldn't attack by land, they had to do it by sea. It took over 3 years of blockading and sieging to take the city if that tells you anything.
I don't know if Ridley specifically had that history in mind when doing this part of the movie, and it certainly doesn't 'save' the film. But it's something to consider as far as accuracy goes anyway.
14 years ago I used a wide screen 1080 TV at my desk and it was great. I worked admin and I just needed to have my project documents actual print size which I just needed to ensure formatting was perfect, and still have my information I needed displayed on the other half with my original work monitor just to keep manuals open for reference. Do dual screens folks makes work flow so nice
ОтветитьI need time stamps
ОтветитьCrazy thing about Jag they literally arent making cars for a year..... if they wanted $$ theyd release a new E type with a 6cyl clean burn turbo engine and retro modern styling. Thatd sell like challengers despite their quality. This 100% ev idea is insane. Throw away cars so working class has no used cars to buy. U cant get work done on used EVs, the batteries r toxic, production and disposal would destroy the world if everyone had one. Synthetic fuels and clean burn engines is future. Coal power plants manufacturing is the REAL danger to enviroment
ОтветитьI just want to say that we're celebrating a day of appreciation here in the good ole U.S. of A. today, and just wanted to express my gratitude to Drinker and Mauler and the rest of the Open Bar crew for the laughter and insights and general fun that you folks have provided this year - especially in the last few months. It's snowing heavily here in VT and my electricity has gone off several times already today so I'm not sure I will be able to express my warm thoughts live later in the day - a gentle spring breeze is often all it takes to take down the electrical grid here (or it might just be at my house), and snow sends it completely into a tizzy. Anyway, thanks guys - love ya.
ОтветитьCliffhanger a bit of cheese?! MF it's one of the most adrenaline filled action movies ever made. That limp dicked Speed is what people hype, nah, Cliffhanger is where it's at.
ОтветитьRidley suffers from "faster more intense" syndrome. The MF's making 3 movies per year, and it shows.
ОтветитьJaguar merged with RangeRover who's target demographic is wealthy women, and now they're pivoting to EV and probably want to combine the brands too. I respect taking a risk on a rebrand, and even if this was the right tone, the execution is still ridiculous to the point of mocking their new target demographic. They could have made a million cringe "we're left-wing millennials now" ads that would still get the rage-bait reactions they were going for, and maybe actually make some lefties excited instead of wonder if it's a parody or even real.
ОтветитьChris is in the closet
ОтветитьAs a comic fan, that poster is such a weak representation of Marvel heroes. No one except Fury is really relevant at all. Ick.
ОтветитьGay?
Do you people even know what musical theater is?
As a smarter person said, you need only 3 keys to write modern movies. CTRL, C and V.
Ответитьwheat
ОтветитьThose Jaguar crayons don't even look happy.
ОтветитьGoing forward, I want every Jaguar ad to feature either Beshine or Chelsea Charms
ОтветитьSo the half skirt is that she has a boner?
ОтветитьFate zero is a really bad anime
ОтветитьMauler thought once upon a time in Hollywood was shit? I'd like to hear his thoughts on that, honestly, it might be one of the most restarted things I've heard, then again, I've heard people hate it for some restarted reasons so, maybe has has a good one, but I doubt it. But hey maybe he has a good one, I do like the difference of opinion.
ОтветитьDrinker's crew does not like ANY sci-fi... so why can't they specialize in cowboy movies. For old-fashioned soon to be middle-aged crew, that would sound ideal. My first recommendation for a critical analysis is Rio Bravo (1959).
