You asked about irrigation, last year I brought this timer from amazon Omorc Automatic Water Timer

Which I have found to be excellent and the rest of the bits and pieces I purchased from ' easy garden irrigation ' who where super helpful.

Waiting to see the recommended watering systems here in the comments!!! Need both a smaller and larger system myself!! Nice job Tim, looks fab as always. Agreed on the Osmo on the horizontals, I need to sand mine back and go with a hard wood varnish this summer.

We did automatic watering on our veggie patch last summer and never really understood at what time the water came on but the veg were fine. However our water bill was over the top so this year we will only be using it when absolutely necessary.

I did this at the front of the house with flowers which got absolutely roasted and died. My lettuce and kale have flourished from being in a slightly shadier spot with more reliable watering..!

Is there enough depth in the guttering for lettuce etc? I was going to build some slightly deeper troughs but this is obviously easier/ faster.

This is a great idea. It's also so lovely to see all the family working together and making lovely memories. The girls will be very handy too when they are older. They won't need to rely on other people to do things for them. I have been the same growing up. I built brick retaining walls in my parents garden at 15 years old and now I can do most DIY projects myself from plumbing, tiling, plastering etc. I had my own handywoman business a few years ago and loved it. I love to watch all your vlogs.

Really like this, we're doing an extension in a few years time and the planners have insisted on a 100mm step back on a South facing wall, so I was planning to move my strawberries onto that wall in a similar way. I quite like the idea of using vertical drain pipe and some sort of hydroponic-like setup, though not sure what exactly. With strawberries I'd want to avoid the need to replace the compost as they use all the nutrients so the plants can stay in for a few years. So if you could sort out some sort of watering/feeding system, possibly Arduino controlled using moisture sensors for me to copy, that would be ace! More seriously, I think I would use micro-drip on a timer to start with, then if you need a challenge look at setting the timer duration to be controlled by something basic like the days' temperature.

Hi, noticed you're using the Wickes compost. Last year Wickes compost was fine, but this year it's a fiber bark-like consistency that forms a rock-hard surface. Hopefully, flowers will be fine, but worth you keeping an eye out for as they may need feeding to compensate for the poor quality of the compost.

Galvanised guttering is gorgeous. Its a shame my house is 1980’s, id love it. But it just would t look right

Only looks right on character properties

Nice vid as usual. I’ve use 1/2 garden hose as a spine with 6mm tubes as final distribution. Mine’s all for specific containers, but for yours, leaky hose might be better. Hoselock timers work well. Charles

drip irrigation is your water solution. it really does work. just be careful to pick drippers that don't add t much water at any one time. Hozelock is excellent. use the 4mm piping and small drippers twice a day at dawn and dusk.

In NZ we have a black soak hose which would be inconspicuous along the back of your gutters, It is made of a material that when you turn the tap on the hose 'sweats' along its length. Great for this sort of watering. Put a simple battery operated timer in the line and the system can self water whenever you need it to, maybe twice every 24 hours for 5 mins or so each time?

This looks great and I may try something similar on the side of the house. I've just installed a drip irrigation system to our greenhouse and veg beds, got one of the cheap £20 ones from Amazon and was pleasantly suprised, went together easily and has been doing the job nicely. Just need to add a timer now, the simple Kingfisher one gets pretty good ratings.

You forgot to drill drainage holes in the pipes also teach your children be self sufficient self sustainable by growing herbs and salads .
Use sea weed fertiliser and apple cider vinegar to spray on crop to stop green fly ect
