Everybody wants tax cuts, nowbody considers the consequences. Just election politics. Texas lowered property taxes last year, my property tax trippled!

Dont worry folks. Us non property holders will foot the bill. Its literally gonna be passed down to somebody and that somebody is non property holders. Best way to get rid of the unwanted. Also weird they would wanna get rid of this instead of reducing it for those that have a smaller income or retired vets

State property tax - would not eliminate city, county and school district taxes. Those would likely increase in order to make up the shortage. Would it be a good thing to keep tax dollars based locally - ?

There’s a lawsuit about this right now and what is claimed is that the central appraisal districts(CAD) have been fraudulently over assessing home values in order to generate tax revenue. This is one reason home prices have skyrocketed here. The Texas comptrollers office has been accused of pre-determining the needed revenue and then the local CADs have been assessing homes to meet the revenue requirements instead of accurately assessing home values. They’ve been backing those numbers in to make the revenue work. It appears that Texas comptroller knows that they have been caught and I suspect they are trying to back out of this shit show. The worst part is that this state is riddled with school bonds and when this thing implodes they’ll default on the bond payments and all hell will break loose.

How do you pay for road s infrastrutcure public services school buses police etc if you don t have any tax revenues ? Why isn't income tax on the table? That's taxing money we actually have in our pockets, which is much more fair than taxing the roof over our heads by some arbitrary valuation and rate. And high sales tax would be painful, given how high the cost of things is already.

Denton county was sued last year and there was plenty of fallout.

At the very least, the State should take over the Property Tax process...which the counties now run. There is too much corruption; the raising of property values, and tax rates - just so they can keep getting the same flow of funds. Also, Schools, School Boards need to trim the budgets down - no fancy schools or high paid superintendents - get back to basics. Schools and Boards need to learn to deal with a strict budget and not raise tax rates almost yearly so they can keep squandering the tax payer funds!

I wish they would eliminate property taxes or give less payment and give us breathing room to get the money to pay. Instead of till the time of November, they should be very gentle with you. But they are so strict with the deadline or your home that has a lean on it before you know it, if you don't meet the deadline.

Idea: Create a Tax land trust: that protects homeowners from paying taxes after, their mortgage is paid off. A % of property taxes now would go into an actively managed public investment account, voted on quarterly by each state treasury, dividends being one main focus. This would reduce the burden on all homeowners across the country and stimulate economic growth, and stability.

Eliminate property tax for Homestead only! Keep it on investors of single-family homes and reduce it for investors on multifamily homes.

I’m currently stuck in California for a few years, my property tax here is twice what I pay for my Parker county house. Then add the 10% state income tax on top of it, it’s miserable. I won’t be complaining about my property taxes when I move back home.

I was going to move to Texas back in 2017 until I looked on zillow and saw how much they pay in property taxes out there. Once I saw that I decided there was absolutely no way I was moving to that state.
